Default Third world gas supply

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/...267958313.html

NSW's biggest gas users will soon know if they face rationing in the wake of the Moomba gas plant fire.

The NSW and South Australian governments are meeting to discuss rationing of gas supplies after the fire at the Santos plant in South Australia on New Year's Day.

The drop in gas supply forced 50 of South Australia's largest businesses to reduce consumption to ensure supply to residential users.

Bondipom,
you may be suprised to discover that the same would happen here in theUK in the event of an accident on these proportions.
It is written into the gas supply contracts to all large users that in the event of supply failure they will be the first to go off.

Hiya bondipom,

It's no surprise to me given that in the private sector there is no spare reserve. Look what happened in the USA with the electricity!

I think being prepared might be a good answer.

I shall start stockpiling baked beans and bog roll.

What is more scary than the power cuts is this problem could last months rather than days. Victoria suffered a similiar fate recently. Hopefully someone can indicate the economic impact of the outage.

Hiya bondipom,

Got the baked beans and the bog roll, but normal food is better.

we kept having power cuts where I'm living at the moment at one stage at night, no explanation but peed me off!! Kept me from me TV

I'm now the prowd owner of a nice generator & wating for the next time.

The economic impact will only affect the generators / providors if the regulator / government get involved.

Hiya,
It's a bit of a problem when the central heating requires power to work

The manufacturing industry faces the threat of weeks of disruption and worker lay-offs following a dramatic cut in the gas supply since an explosion at a plant in South Australia

Not as many places out here have Gas availability, as they do in UK.

My previous place in NSW didnt have Gas in the area, and neither does my location here in QLD.

If we want Gas, we would need it delivered in big metal cylinder tanks. Just hope we don't lose the Electric, then we would be down to just the BBQ.
