For those doing their budgets, don't forget there's a first time home owners grant for anyone building or buying your first home in OZ.

We thought that the $7000 available to us was too good to be true and surely was not legit as we had had homes in the UK. But no, if it's your first home in Oz, it's available. Apparently it used to be $14k here in Queensland but hey, beggars can't be choosers! we built and moved in to our house and applied for the grant and got it straight into our account 2 weeks later.

I think different states offer different amounts.

Don't you just love money for nothing.

australia wide, except vic where stamp duties even higher than the rest of the country, there it was a bit higher.

of course it is, we get 7,ooo and we got our 1900 stamp duty back.

Our mortgage broker gave us the application and he submitted it for us!!!

Its easy!!

Yeah How does that work , i knew about the 1st time buyers grant but stamp duty back oooo lovely tell us more :D

Hi

As first home buyers in NSW we didn't pay stamp duty - as well as getting the $7000 grant. Mind you, with the cost of housing around Sydney, we thought we deserved this break!!

These things are not set in stone, of course, and the situation can be changed in the future.

Also make sure that your first house is "the one" as selling and re-buying costs here are (much) higher than in UK so I am informed.
