Default Is there 'Self Shipping'? AQIS???

I have searched this forum and dont appear to have an answer yet??

I have had a quote on a container 20' for £1500 Self packing in uk etc... But what happens at the other end... Brisbane to be precise..

Si wants to take his motorbike, know about the cleaning, but not sure how much import tax and if they decide, how much to clean if not to there standards?

When your container arrives i understand that AQIS check it with checklists etc. but then what?? How do you get your stuff off them and do you empty it at port in a self drive??

I understand if things under 12 mth you say it was a 'gift' or get taxed on it..

Any help would be appreciated. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

In advance, S-j x

hi,
i went the diy method to brisbane and used a local agent in brisbane who does everything this end. Click on the link of a thread that may be of interest and my reply is under "VARSANI".

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...41#post3195941

the agent was brilliant and very upfront of all charges, and will answer any related inquiries via email or phone, give her a go and see what happens and good luck.

by the way, i have no interest in this company, but recommend only from personal experience.

regards
varsani

I used Maria as well , she was great. Really helpful and always available.

best piece of advice I got from her was
Qurantine prefer the client/owner to do their own quarantine attendance * if they are able to. This entails opening your cargo for the quarantine inspector and you will have able to answer any questions the Quarantine Officer may have at the time.

* Agents are likely to charge an additional A$ 80.00 + gst at least for 1 hr inspection if they attend in your place

A key will be required if a padlock has been utilised on the container or for anything inside the container.

Had a great chat and a laugh with the AQIS guy (ex british SAS guy from Surrey) who didn't even bother to open ANY of my boxes. He was interested in what we left behind any why. I think he wanted to know that we'd read the list of declarabel items properly.

regards

Neil
