Are there any Electronic Engineers out there
HI All
Just wondering if there are any Electronics engineers out there who might be able to give us a bit of guidance. My partner is and electronics engineer who has worked mainly on MOD contracts repairing and operating underwater targets for the navy. he also worked on fibre optic cable laying driving underwater vehicles. Are there any agencies out there for engineers or does any one know of any publications where we may be able to find out of any vacancies.
hope some one may be able to help.
cheers

WOW I can't wait to see the answers to this one sounds absolutely fasinating.I worked on a naval tug once that lifted subs and targets from the sea bed mostly in the Irish sea region.
Scottish crew were fantastic mostly from Greenock and Glasgow.
Although I was never lucky enough to go to sea with them I loved the stories etc.
Welcome into the site by the way Julie and fella

Re: Are there any Electronic Engineers out there
Hi Julie,
I'm a Mechanical rather than Electrical engineer.
There are plenty of employment agencies in Oz for engineering, but most won't you to have your visa.
Do a search on the web.

Hi Julie,
I'm a professional electronics engineer, but first, were are you thinking of going - you didn't say. I'm currently looking for suitable positions in NZ. Your other half will probably have to look in another area of electronics as this type of market is very small although is a growth industry. Big markets there at the moment are communications (R.F., GPS systems etc) and (I believe) medical systems. Along with a hoard of small specialised companies.
If your off to N.Z. then I can give you some company names and agencies etc.

Florida_03 is spot on about the Citizenship rules - which will affect you if you are trying to get work with any of the armed forces or intelligence bodies.
Some job agencies (like Geoffrey Nathan) have pre-qualified sponsorship clearances from the department of immigration. Meaning that if they find you a job they can sponsor you.
In practice this means that you are working for the agency rather than the company who employs you, but it's a handy way out of the visa issue, for the short term at least.

Check citizenship requirements first for security clearances. Most defence jobs in Australia require Australian citizenship.
