Default Theft at shipping company..update:

Since i last posted a thread about our "Bad experience with Crown Relocations" i wanted to give those who were using Crown an update.
Just to relate back to what happened to us:::stolen Fire-arms by one of the crew that packed our stuff aswell as other things missing such as Snap-on tools...
After 3 months of investigations from the C.I.D in the UK...an employee of Crown (who packed our furniture) was arrested last month after being seen on CCTV stealing the box with the Fire-arms in. He has been charged and put before the court.
This is very good news for us as we obviously knew it was one of the crew who packed our stuff that stole them. Bad news that we will probably never see our Fire-arms again...which we had 3 Fire-arms in total and hunting knife.
It just shows that no-one can be trusted when left to pack your items...even if they have had a police check.
I also wanted to mention that since the arrest of the ex-Crown employee, Crown have now been very helpful with us, working along side the police to see this individual sentenced.

If they were semi or fully automatic, you would have probably had them confiscated on arrival in Australia anyway. They were banned after the Port Arthur shooting, unless they are fully deactivated or you have a very, very good excuse and permits for possessing them.

At least Crown assisted with the investigation. After having $2.5k 'given' by a teller at a UK bank to someone claiming to be Bert; even when said teller was so suspicous she took a cctv picture with the camera, they would not give the cctv footage to the police. He spent 8 hours in the branch refusing to leave until they reimbursed the money.

Abbey - oops, sorry, Stella!

semi and fully automatic weapons have been banned in the UK since Hungerford. It's actually alot easier to get a firearms licence in Australia than it is in the UK (unless moving to Western Australia where there are just as many hoops to jump through as the UK) but we can own pistols here, semi automatic or otherwise.

Had to laugh at your comment re: removal companies police checking their staff!!

Do you seriously believe this happens? It is up there with working in McDonalds as a job and believe me, if they started police checking their porters, they would very soon go out of business!!

Plus - the police don't have the resources to deal with that volume of work....think how the time for police checks would increase

Abso - bloomin - lootley!!!!!

I once worked for a lorry driving agency and was sent to work for a removal comapny for a couple of days! Wont mention any names but they are a very BIG player in the UK!

Spent the day watching these fools rifle through personal belongings, smoke dope in the back of the lorry, laughing about how one of them stole the ladys knickers, sniffed them and then wanked into them whilst in the toilet!

Didnt go back for day two!!!

All I can say is, watch them like bloody hawks when they're in your home!

Really interested to know, how difficult is it to get the import permits etc? Hubby has firearms and would dearly like to take them with us. How long does process take to get all the paperwork in place? Any useful websites?

Seeing that the laws were made nationwide, I think it would be safe to assume that is the case anywhere else? So I can take it you are a registered member of a gun club, or a professional shooter?

Don't bother, I have just spent weeks trying to find out the best way to take two shotguns and an air rifle, the bottom line is you need an agent (firearms dealer) in Oz to accept them from customs and store them for you until you can get and Austalian license, then as far as I can make out some shippers will take them most won't or there is one company here in the UK that will ship them as they specialise in firearms. You then need to sign some customs forms in the UK to declare them as personal posessions. When you look at the costs for that lot and special metal cases for transporting them it works out cheaper to sell them here and buy new when in Australia, that is unless it's made by Holland & Holland. Anyone want to buy a Beretta ? Oh and anything which does not have a safety catch on will apparently not clear customs in Australia.
