What a shocking tragedy, their poor families and friends. People down that way are going to be hit hard, the victims were apparently a huge part of the Margs community.
As useless as it is, I can't escape the 'WHY'? Especially the kids. Bloody hell.

I vaguely remember something similar in New South Wales a year or so back, parents decided they couldn't go on, and took the kids with them. Its just awful - its one thing for the parents to take their own lives, but why involve the poor kiddies.

Rumours abounding, as they do. Some point to a 'disgrunted ex' - but all media stories say 7 dead in a murder - suicide and identify those 7 as a mum and her 4 children, and the mother's parents. I wish people would keep their mouths shut and their typing fingers still instead of speculating. As if it isn't bad enough for family and friends, without that shit.

Supposedly the grandfather is a suspect but the ex is not. The ex also apparently had been engaging in stalking behaviour for several weeks which was documented - which will surely lead to more questions about the police, already a hot-button issue in regional WA. Not a good year for Margaret River.

What kind of town/community is Margret River ?

I am there quite often. It's a small town (about 10,000 people live there) and is one of the centres of Western Australia's tourism industry. Known for wine, surfing and hippies. Not a place you would expect this to happen. I probably would have guessed 50, or even 100, other places in WA before Margaret River. I think the last time something like this happened, a family affiliated with a cult went missing around Nannup (70 kms away), about a decade ago. Never found or heard from.
