Default Temporary Visa

I am applying for a defacto spouse visa and I was just thinking about the temporary two years you are given before being reassessed and then hopefully given the PR.

Does anyone know who this will affect me in terms of financial issues like applying for a mortgage, credit card, rental property!

Be grateful to hear from you.

It might make it harder to get a job as some employers don't want temporary residents. Especially for long-term, career-orientated jobs.

If you qualify for a skilled migration visa instead, this option would usually be preferable.

Hey Wilso
We were also worried about this when Matt applied for the same visa, but we've had no problems. Matt got a job within 10 days, we were in rental within 2 weeks, we haven't got credit cards, but we've now got a mortgage and a car loan.

Matt tended to say he had a residency visa and had full entitlements to work in Australia, rather then say it was a temporary resident visa.

Good Luck!

Oh that is good news. Majority of people on here are applying via skilled visas so they automatically get PR so it's good to hear from someone who has been through the Temporary visa faze! I will remember the "residency visa" tip!

We came over as I was sponsored for a 457 visa (temporary 4 year). Obviously work was no problem for me but hubby had no worries getting a job. Couldn't get a visa for 3 months and not sure on finance as we haven't applied but had the go ahead for a mortgage a couple of weeks ago.
