Temp Housing in Melbourne
Hi all,
Can anyone on here recommend cheap temp accommodation in Melbourne? We'll be arriving in mid January, and would need a place for at least 1 week, if not longer. We don't want to pay an arm and a leg of course. Unfortunately, I just found that the Australian Open will be taking place when we plan to arrive. Any ideas on how we can get around this? We just need a place until we find a permanent rental. Oh, and we prefer the inner SE area as that is where we'll be looking for something permanent (hubby will be working in Clayton). Thanks! Getting excited about the move! Chris |

We stayed in serviced appts in Ferntree Gully for three weeks when we got here. It's not the cheapest of places but had everything you would need including full equipped kitchen, aircon, washing machine, dryer etc. http://www.lifestyleapartments.com.au/

Hi Chris
We're staying in UniCity Apartments at the moment. They're on Lonsdale St (City Centre - it's easy to get anywhere), and have standard studio apartments for $69 a night if you stay for a month or over, or $89 if you're staying under a month. They have a fully equipped kitchen (microwave, cooker, pans, utensils etc), bathroom with shower and pretty good sized living space with sofa, table, chairs, chests of drawers, wardrobe, TV (and of course bed). Also wireless internet free for a month. The only thing they don't have is air con, so we bought a fan (only $15). It's also non-smoking. We didn't know this at the time, but it's on the route for the airport shuttle, so ask them if you book and you'll get dropped at the door. As long as you get one which has a view (there are some in-looking ones) and higher up (we're on the 7th floor out of 12), I'd say they're good value. They're basically student accomodation but a bit nicer (and have table tennis and pool table downstairs!). And they have a rooftop terrace thing with a BBQ. Sorry, I can't remember the website address (just google it). Good luck with the move! Laura |

Hi,
Try the YHA - they have double rooms or dorms. Shared bathrooms, coin laundry in house, kitchen, and helpful staff. We stayed in the Melbourne Oasis - about 10 minutes north of the CBD by tram or 30-40 minutes walk. http://www.yha.com.au/ Shopped at the Vic Markets for our food, which made it nice and cheap on that side aswell. Good luck :) |
