Re: Tell me about Hobart
I'm not in Hobart I am afraid, but I have been and quite like it. It's a bit chilly, but has a good vibe.
If you wanted a UK equivalent, I would say go to Weymouth in late October/early November, and it will be a pretty good likeness.
Hobart has a nice working port, plenty of decent pubs and some museums, oh and a casino (but it's really pants) and a high mountain where it snows on the top (one thing Weymouth doesn't have).
All up, not bad at all. Not so sure there's a huge amount of work there though - so also like Weymouth.

I don't live there either but I'm a fan. Its a little quiet and a little chilly for my liking but I could live there if I had to. Beautiful scenery, people are friendly, good vibe, lots of outdoorsy stuff to do.

Plenty of decent pubs to drink in as well. And they serve beer in Pints too!

There's also a gallery with lots of plaster fannies on the wall. Apparently its a top notch gallery if galleries is your thing.

Hobart or Tasmania as a whole kicks really highly on the foodies index as well.....Probably the 3rd best city for food after Melbourne and Sydney with Tasmania having the best produce in Australia. It also has the most English type vibe of any state in Aus.
I enjoy visiting there more than any other part of Aus.
Mona... the Gallery has been voted the best modern art gallery in the world numerous times. It's a great experience visiting there and one that will really stick in your mind. Lets put it this way, some people walk into the place and walk out after 5 mins as they are so confronted. Whereas most just walk around having their boundaries stretched in stunned amazement.
Check out the reviews and you'll realise you have in Hobart something fairly unique in the world.

If you've got a 100 pct confirmed job to go to, your going to have a very good lifestyle.... And be fairly well off as housing is cheap. Oh and its the prettiest city in Aus by far... and probably one of the prettiest in the world.

Currently covered in snow. More of a negative than the lack of work in my book but others seem to like it.

Currently looking at all towns on the top of the great divide in Qland.... even Atherton.... Nice and green up there as well.
BTW I was also thinking about MONA and I believe it should be on the must do list for every Australian to the same degree as Sydney Harbour or Uluru.....It's that Iconic in my book.

Have a picture..... I'm going back there in September actually, cant wait.
Doing the East Coast this time.
Also hate to say it, but Port Arthur hit my list of over rated places unfortunately. It wasn't bad...but a 140K round trip from Hobart was almost not worth it.

No sure why, perhaps I'd heard all these great things so I expected more. Worth a visit though.

We will be visiting Hobart in September, as weighing up Tas or NZ to emigrate to. Apart from the touristy thing sdo you have any advice on areas of the city / outskirts/ suburbs.
Rough/traffic/ access to rest of island. Any advice appreciated, especially where to go to have food etc when there... Nowt posh mind! Cheers
