Default Telephones

This question has probably been asked lots of times before but do UK standard DECT telephones work in Oz?

Default Re: Telephones

They should do.

The RJ12 connectors (little square one that plugs into phone) in UK are wired differently to those in Oz. Oz and UK use 2 wires, but 2 inner or 2 outer (can't remember which). The ends are usually clear plastic and you can see how they are wired. But you can buy 4 wired connectors in Oz for about $5 (probably get them in UK).

We know people who have had no problem doing this. But our snazzy cordless (BT calypso model) did not work ! I bought an Oz DECT cordless and the BT extra handset works fine with it (DECT/GAP compatible). No idea why we have a problem.

Cordless cost me $40 here. I wish I had sold my phone in UK (it's that hindsight thing again), but would have liked my UK phones more had they worked !

Also technically you should not connect any non-Oz-approved phone to your network.

Not necessarily - any phone should work. DECT allows you to use your cordless with the Oz cordless
