Well I have had 3 teenagers here in Umina, moved when they were 15,14 and 10. All fitted in well. Brisbane waters secondry school Umina (yrs 7-9) isnt crash hot but woy woy campus (yrs 10-12) is much better. Lovely beaches, footie most weekends. Not sure what else you were asking. Not much different to school in UK.

We have 2 girls & will be moving when the older one is 16 & the younger 14. Younger one is raring to go, but like your son, the elder one very up & down. Sometimes she goes through spells of being really positive & "up for it", other times not so.

I think one way to approach it is to let them know that nothing has to be forever. If they finish their first level education & still feel that they can't settle, there are always alternatives...they may want to live with another relative, do a uni course somewhere else in Oz or the UK, coming back at holidays...the thing is, is to let them know that as they get older & mature, they'll gradually be in a position to earn their own money & make their own decisions.

At 16 let's face it, even if you were staying in the UK they might not necessarily be living at home for very many years longer. My daughter has always wanted to do higher education in the States...by moving to Oz we may well be in a better position to support her with that.

Best of luck, it's a tricky age.

We lived in Central Coast for a few months last year - OH made the commute to Sydney daily via train. It was a long day for him. Our kids are not as old as yours. They did like the schools and had made friends quickly once in school. All are looking forward to our return to Aus in a few months.

Good luck with your move.
