Teaching in Western Australia (on a Partner Visa)

Posting this within the ‘Australia’ section as the ‘Working’ section doesn’t seem to have much traffic. I have read plenty of similar posts however this is specific to Partner Visa applicants rather than Skilled Visa applicants.

My partner has applied for a partner visa with the intention of moving to WA to live and work.

She has almost 8 years work experience in teaching (3 years as a qualified teacher). She has a PGCE and has studied for circa 5 years (although 4 years at university level). All qualification attained in the UK.

Can anyone confirm the eligibility to teach in WA? And what evidence and registrations she needs to attain?

I have read plenty of people talking about ITELS, AITSL and TRBWA however I believe that not all of these are required to teach in WA. They do however help with accumulating points for a skilled visa. (We are not applying for a skilled visa.)

I understand that the TRBWA registration is required.

I also believe that the TRBA language requirements; and studying requirements are met – if you have studied a teaching qualification(s) in the UK, in English.

Are there any teachers out there that can assist?

Bump. Sorry - can anyone recommend people to contact? Any recommended agencies?

Start here http://http://www.trb.wa.gov.au/teac...s/default.aspx and follow the process.

As long as she has a right to work in Aus it should be straightforward but getting a job is a whole other ballgame - lots of out of work young teachers so it largely depends on where she will want to work and what her skill set is.

On a partner visa she will have full working rights, which is a good start. Only hitch could be if she is on the Temp Spouse visa then some States won't allow her to hold a permanent job, she'll need to have PR for that.

Dear dmuk,

How are you getting on with your registration?

We have done it all from this end with VIT and it all sailed through, or so it seemed. We do have transcripts etc. and certified copies of all possible qualifications. Having university degrees and the required number of teacher training days also helped.

We have secured a role for one of us from the UK but have no idea how tough it might be to set a primary role in semi rural Vic.

Guess we'll find out soon. :)
