Teaching in Melbourne

Hi,

We are planning on moving to Melbourne through my job in the near future so I'm set up for work etc on arrival. My gf on the other hand is a Primary Teacher with 3 years experience and from what I can gather from various forums permanent jobs are pretty rare for Primary Teachers.

I was hoping someone could tell me how easy/difficult it is for Primary Teachers to secure 'supply' work to fill in for illness, holidays, maternity leave etc?

Location is still to be confirmed but it looks like I'll be working in Frankston, Cheltenham or Dandenong. I'm happy to commute (up to 40 mins each way) so I would also be interested to know if supply work is easier to secure outwith the city and within the radius described to help us plan where to look for rentals while maximising my gf's chances of work.

Thanks :)

Permanent jobs for primary teachers almost anywhere vaguely civilized in Australia are scarcer than hens' teeth. If you are registered you can usually pick up casual relief for the odd day or even the odd term but getting permanency is a whole other ball game.
