Cool Taxi Melbourne Airport-South Yarra

Sorry for the triviality, but has anyone got an indication of the cost of a taxi from the airport to South Yarra (Davis Avenue) in Melbourne travelling on a Saturday morning - due to land at 7.30 am?
What are the alternatives with public transport?

Many thanks in advance.

Not sure of the Taxi fare but theres a bus from the Airport to Spencer street station in the city. You could take that then maybe get a taxi from there.

Saturday morning, $45-$50. They'll automatically add the tollway amount at the other end if you say they can use it, which you should.

There is a shuttle bus to the city, don't know how much though. Should be cheaper than the cabs.

Unlike Sydney or Brisbane there is no train station at the airport. No tram either. I think there is a rent-a-bomb near the airport so you can rent a crap car to get you from A to B. The no-brainer is the cab option though.

Ah, beaten to it with the info for the SkyBus. Certainly cheaper.

Thans all for the info.
Bus is 13 $ pp one way, with 2 of us 26 $ is about half the price,
but we would need to change twice to get there and after a lonf flight I think we would probably go for the cab (my company is paying anyway...).

many thanks again!

Yes I think I paid $50-$60, did it twice right out to Doncaster and also tried the skybus at $13 to Spenser st. also good but I only had one bag that time to carry. The cab is easy and quick and straight to the door.
Have a good trip hope you like Melb

Are you staying at Punt Hill apts on Davis Ave? (Just wondered cos Davis Ave is a leafy residential street but there is an apartment complex at the Toorak Rd end)

yes, I stayed there a few years ago....great location. Apartment was pretty basic but clean and quiet. As mentioned it's a few steps from Toorak Rd so you have some great restaurants and shops on the doorstep. Also, of course you have the no 8 tram that runs down Toorak Rd to the cbd (or up Torrak Rd to Toorak itself) and SOuth Yarra train station is a short walk up Toorak Rd. Botanical Gardens are only a 10 min walk from the apt. Chapel St is just round the corner too, if shopping's your thing!

Have a lovely trip

There's a lovely cake shop a few doors from the corner of Punt Rd and Toorak Rd in Toorak Rd(French something?) 1,000 calories just looking in the window! Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi always go there when the Australian Open is on.

We were in a serviced apartment on Murphy St (just across Toorak Road) only recently. Great location, sure you'll enjoy it. Make the most of it 'cos it's an expensive area so you may find you can't afford to live there permanently (should you be thinking of it). No doubt the likes of Agassi and Graf have a fancy pad there so they don't have too far to stagger home full of cake!
