Tax on shipping a car?
Hi,
I want to ship a car to Oz later this year. I understand that you have to pay 15% tax on import and have to have owned the car for 12 months and must produce purchase documents.
I am assuming that the tax is payable on what we paid for the car (as we purchased it second hand) and not the original purchase price?
If aynyone has any experience of this please could you give me some guidance.
Many thanks

As I recall you pay 15% import duty and 10% GST on the landed value of the car. Didn't explain what landed value was but I would assume it was the worth of the car on import.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that,
Does that mean that they won't take what we purchased the car for as the figure to base tax on but will base it on the cars value in Oz? If this is the case the car is wotrth more in Oz so will pay more thax than we thought tax!!
thanks
