Question Tax Return and Super claim

Hi there

I recently (2009) temporarily moved back to the UK from Australia, I finished my job and have all my documentation for completion of a tax return.

I did claim all my super back and some money was withheld as the ATO have said that I need to complete a tax return, does this mean that I need to do a tax return and could get a bill for tax or does this mean that the money they have withheld if I do owe more tax after wards would be used to pay the tax bill?

Depends
I moved back to UK temporarily some years ago and had to submit a tax return. Everything was calculated pro-rota against what I'd earned. Assuming you were working in Aus there will be tax tot pay. I guess that why they're withholding. If you paid no tax, you'll owe it.

Chances are you might get a tax refund especially if you werent here for the full tax year. You will have to get a paper form to do the tax return as the electronic version wont be around until late June. Good luck with dealing with the ATO!
