Tax rebates

I have those 'leaving UK forms' from Inland Revenue. How much could someone earning say, in the region of £35k pa expect to receive back from the government? Does it make a difference if we leave before or after the end of the tax year?

If you're expecting something back, it depends how much you've overpaid! Or do you mean something else?

If you leave part way through a tax year, your tax-free allowance is reduced, pro rata.

As far as I know your personal allowance (£4900 or so) is divided equally (by 12 or 52 depending if you're paid monthly or weekly) as it is assumed that you will be working throughout the tax year.

Take a look at THIS which explains how your tax is calculated (though it's got rates for the 2004/5 tax year).

The rates for 2006 are shown here
