Tax rebate for working holiday residents?
Hey everyone,
Been looking around this site for a while now, reading all the posts all which are very helpful. Parents used this site when we moved to Australia in 07, especially my mum - avid user!
Basically I left & came back with my girlfriend. She got a Working Holiday Visa for a year, I am a permanent resident moved here with the family. We're heading back to the UK end of Feb and we want to claim my girlfriends tax rebate which she has mounted up to just over $3000 now.
We have rang up the tax office, which to be honest arn't very good help. Gave us some useful information but when saying how to apply for it, she just told us to use the e-Tax online. Problem is, its only accepting 2009-2010 tax year. We've been told that because my girlfriend is a temporary resident, we can claim the tax back early and it will take up to 2 weeks from having applied for it to be refunded to her.
I have looked at companies that specialise in doing all the process for you, especially Freespirit, they charge a $300 handling fee.
So does anybody know anything about how to do it for yourself? or has anybody done it before? If so could you please get back to asap
thanks in advance,
Jonny & Sophie.
