Tax rebate for stay at home moms
Hi All,
Just found this article. It basically states that the Australia government should give a small wage to SAHM. Anyone got any thoughts. Are they likely to do this?

Dont take me literally..... I am aware that a couple on a reletively low income will get family tax benefit and child benefit, to what extent I havent a clue.
There is also new rules that I think come into effect this year that will force able bodied people into working once their kids reach a certain age. This is not sitting very well with single parents who stay at home.

I would be pretty ticked off if they ever tried to force people back to work. I'm at the point where I would really like to work part time but it doesn't make much sense financially when I have two small kids at home (age 4 and almost 1.5).
I believe we do get the minimum family tax B benefit, although there's talk of them making that income tested. If they did that we'd no longer qualify, and I'm not complaining about that because we really don't need it (although it helps).
So for us, we get the absolute minimun child care benefit and given our tax bracket I'd need to make a lot to make the child care worth while. So I won't be going back to work any time soon, unless I can manage not to pay for childcare.
It would be nice if they paid us for staying at home though
