Tax implications

Hello,

Hubby is going to have to return to the UK for a few weeks in September. We thought that while he was there it would be worth his while working back at his old job.
My question is
what are the tax implications of working back in the UK when a resident in Australia?
Will he end up paying emergency tax? :curse:
Can it be claimed back? etc
We really dont have a clue about this so anyone that can answer or point us in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Lisa

For a couple of weeks his "tax residence" status won't change from Aus to UK. Therefore he should be able to avoid UK tax (or at least reclaim it) but should declare it on his Aus tax return and expect a bill late 2009 when it is processed.

Thank you. Any idea how i can work out what the tax costs would be on our tax return. We need to decide if it is "worth" him working while there or not.

It depends what other taxable income he will have in the year July - June, what deductions he can claim and what the exchange rates are etc. Ballpark though, if you don't mind, tell me what he will earn here and what he will earn there in that 12 months and assuming you aren't sitting on investment properties, nest eggs etc I will give you an idea.
