Default Tax on foreign income

Hi all,

I am in process of applying for visa and hoping to move to Oz in or around October. (Spouse visa).

My boss has just confirmed that I can keep my job and work from Oz which is fantastic.

I have no idea of tax implications though and before I go making calls to Inland revenue and ATO I would appreciate any advice people may have.

Will I have to pay tax in UK and/or Oz??

Would it be better for me to go self employed and therefore be able to write off office start up equipment etc against tax?

Has anyone on here in a similar situation or have knowledge/experience which may help.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks a million.

This is the ATO web page that deals with this.

Become self employed in OZ, and invoice the UK company.
That saves on paying UK tax and NI, it also saves the employer in their share of NI contributions.

You are then also able to claim OZ tax deductions for various things.

Try to become GST registered too. That will mean refunds every quarter
