Hi,

We are going to Oz in July to validate visas on a fact finding mission. Does anyone know whether it would be worth applying for tax file numbers when we are there in readiness to start work when we finally go in Jan 04.

You dont need to, as soon as you get there proper just go to the tax office and they will give you a number straight away. They will then send the details in the post to your address. You wont be able to get the number on your trip as you need a permenant address for them to send the number to.

Hi,
When we arrived we telephoned to get our tax file numbers but we were told to apply via the web-site.
So you can do this from the uk just before you leave, I will try and find the web site address.

You don't get your number straight away, when we applied it was quicker to do it on line rather than go into the tax office and fill in the form, two weeks versus about 4 weeks.

You need the number asap for work and for Centrelink.

When i went last time on a WHV they gave me a tempory number as soon as i went to the office so that i could work straight away, they then sent me a number in the post.
