Can I ask you a quick question about tax? Can I get a TFN while I have no Visa and am
living in the UK? I will soon be employed by an Australian company but resident in
the UK, I will move over once visa's are sorted.

Thanks for any light you can throw on the matter.

Hi Bob.

You should be able to get a TFN, but until you move to live in Australia you will be taxed on any Australian source income as a non-resident => higher rate of tax than as a resident.

If your employment duties for the Aussie company are performed in the UK I think you'll find that they have an obligation to register their UK presence (ie you) with the UK Inland Revenue so that your salary in the UK is taxed under PAYE, and not under the Aussie regime.

That is great, thanks. Where do I email/write to get the TFN?

I think I should be okay to be taxed in Australia straight away, although it is worse
off for me, as I will only be here for a few weeks (3-4) and only attending training
seminars. Not officially performing work?
