Default Tax in Australia

Hi

I'm trying to work out my potential net weekly pay

I know there is different tax rate depending on your salary, but I'd like to know if allowances and SuperA also taxed in Australia?

Example:

Base Salary $70k
SuperA - $6,300
Allowances (car, etc) - $14k

Total - $90,300

Would the tax be deducted from the $70k or $90,300 ?

Thanks in advance!!

If you want to calculate your net income, you should put the $84k into a calculator such as:

Consider asking about a novated lease arrangement with your employer, rather than a car allowance.

Best regards.

The super is the 9% of gross income that the employer has to pay by law: that is taxed at 15% when it goes into the super fund and the super fund pays that to the ATO, no effect on your net income.

Not sure about the allowances, but they are likely to be considered fringe benefits on which someone (hopefully your employer!) will have to pay FBT. Alternatively they may be considered part of your taxable income.

With the $14k for your car; keep a diary for all the work related expenses for the car. You will get deductions for petrol, rego, repairs, depreciation. Use a tax accountant for the first year to make sure that you claim every thing you can. Most people I know have deductions greater than the allowance.
