hi folks,
A friend of mine told me that I've gotta pay about 25K for tax if my annual salary is about 75K. Is it really correct??? :scared:

Yeah that'd be about right, once you take ALL tax into consideration (income, medicare, super etc).
I've always worked on the rule of thumb, in both the UK and here, that one third of my pay goes on tax. Its always close enough to that, in both countries. In the UK its Income tax and National Insurance, here its income, medicare and super. It all works out about the same, except I suppose petrol is alot cheaper here (less tax)

Do you mean Rates for providing local services like street lighting and emptying the bins? Its slightly cheaper here, but not much. Car tax is cheaper,,can't remember the exact figures.
Food? Well, ha ha, theres been about 50 threads debating the subject on here, if you want to read some no win arguments, look for food price threads. Personally I find food cheaper here (e.g. pizzas for $5, in the UK they would be 5 pounds, beer is definitely cheaper, I can't think of any other food stuff at the moment ). Oh and Government Sales tax here is 10%, in the UK its 17.5%.

Income tax is higher but as far as I can tell there are a lot less stealth taxes here so overall it's probably about the same.
