I have heard a rumour that medicals cost more of you have any tatoos - is this right?

Yes 'tis true, but not too much as you just have to have an extra blood test, I think it's for hep B. approx £15 me thinks!!

Hi Golden, i think it depends on were you go, i have 5 tat's we had our meds in Glasgow and never got charged extra.

Don't want to hijack your thread, but could someone answer me HONESTLY if it hurts having a tattoo? i've wanted one for ages on the bottom of my back, not the 'swirly ones' but the word Freedom in Japenese writing, but even though i've had 2 children i'm a little bit afraid, please please be honest

Rach i have had 5!! two on arms two on chest, and one on my calf, they were sore-ish, donna has one on her shoulder and she said it was fine. Just go for it.

A tattoo does hurt too much - basically like someone scratching your skin.

The bottom of the back is OK and less 'painful' as there is plently of thicker skin as opposed to areas where skin is thin.

Don't be scared, a good and reputable tattooist will make it as painless as can be. Ensure the tattoo studio is hygenic and licenced by a local authority.

they hurt like hell, imagine someone dragging a red hot needle through your skin and u wont be far off.

But i supposed compared to child birth its a sinch lol

Be warned, if you ave one before u go to oz, keep it out the sun for a while otherwise it will fade and all the pain would have been for nothing

It's true alright, my husband had to have a seperate blood test costing us an extra 72 pounds.......

We went for our Meds a couple of weeks ago to a private practice in Huddersfield, My husband Michael had to have an extra test done because of his tatoo at a cost of £30.
What makes me laugh is that a close member of my family who works at a hospital (mentioning no names) has to look after 2 assylum seekers on their ward one has TB & full blown AIDS & the other just AIDS & they have only just come into this country.
I can't beleive what we have to go through to get into Australia which I beleive they've got the right attitude but in comparison to the UK it's a joke

I have a tattoo at the bottom of my back (which I've had for about a year) and I'm having another one on my back (near shoulder blade) on Wednesday. Having the outline drawn on is a bit uncomfortable but once you get going it's OK. The most painful places to have them are on the ankle or hip.

If it was that bad, I wouldn't be having another!!

Go on, be impulsive........

Hi all

I would love a tattoo and have been thinking about getting one for ages but after reading this perhaps I should wait till after I have had my meds.

Would doing this then raise any further problems regarding our visa application?

To this day, this question makes me laugh.

OF COURSE it hurts. A needle if forcibly jammed into the deep layer of skin over and over again giving the sensation of having it stuck in and dragged.
However... pain aside, more to the point is your tolerence level. Some people will say it was agony (specially those who get them in bony places - BTW the spine is bony and therefore more painful than fleshy areas.) and others will say it's a breeze!
Most men will tell you it was nothing (not macho to admit it hurt...lol though my bro passed out getting his - needle fear)
I personally find that single needle detail (highlighting, oldschool outlining etc..) has me gritting my teeth and sweating but multiple needle shading & coloring etc... is very tolerable...even for hours at a time (my last tat took 4 hours)

Like dolly said, if it was THAT bad.. no one would have 2!! LOL
