Default Tasmania Broadband

Hi all,
Still in a quandry about possibly going to Tasmania.

Anyone any experieces (good or bad) of getting broadband connections around Hobart area? Have heard Tas is not always at the forefront of technology

Coincidentally I was discussing this issue yesterday with friends of ours who are moving back to Hobart from Geelong in about 10 days - they are big users of ADSL.

I gather that Tassie was in fact one of the first locations in Australia to have ADSL, because the Federal Government needed the support of a Tassie Senator to get the Telstra partial privatisation legislation through Parliament. He said OK, on the condition that Telstra upgraded their exchanges to enable ADSL connections.

Best regards.

Thanks Alan,
Would also be interesed why your friends are returning to Hobart. We were originally thinking of Adelaide but are warmingt o the idea of Hobart (climate and cost of living being more favourable).

It's a work related move back to Hobart for them (he works for one of the main banks) - and they come from Tassie so have family there.

Best regards.
