That's good if there's a spray you can pick up in the supermarket then.
Watch out the shops in Hobart - Beth will no doubt be buying up all the stock on arrival and spraying every nook and cranny of wherever she's living! :rofl:
I was more worried about things in the garden that i might have to use - and the kids playhouse thing that we'd probably be shipping over with us....as we get enough spiders webs in that over here in England...
I imagine that most people are paranoid about these things until you get familiar with the place and have settled in....then i guess things just become the norm.:)

I'd wear gardening gloves whilst gardening and check the kids playhouse every now and again, give it a spray as well.

My kids had a wooden cubby-house which is now used as a garden shed, and I've not yet found a red-back in it yet... plenty of little garden spiders though. :lol:

Hey there, though i'd put in my tuppence worth on this lovely subject. I will be buying that spray by the bulk load, i seriously freak when i see a spider here, im not sure how i'm gonna cope out there, apparently they hide behind pictures on the walls, garden furniture etc, im seriously gonna be a minimalist when i get there ! ha ha :)

I'd probably be inspecting every spider looking for the red bit! :lol: Do you know anyone that's actually been bitten by one? Are children taught about the insects etc that are dangerous in school in Tas? It's probably easier for the kids as they'll all grow up and for them these things will be normal - but for us old un's this whole new lifestyle / place to live thing is like going back to school again! ;)

Hey Shona :) Now dont get me worried about all my pictures and bits and bobs....i'll have all the spiders in the neighbourhood saying "i know where we'll live - down at that mad womans - you know the one with more ornaments and hiding places for us than everyone else!" :rofl:
looks like there's quite a few going to Tas that are not into spiders one bit.
Maybe everyone should organise one of those sessions at London Zoo etc where you get to hold the spiders to rid yourselves of the fear! But if you do....i'm a bit busy that day! :lol:

:lol: It's really not that bad Shona. But I do ALWAYS have a can of flyspray on hand for the odd spider or two.

To me the Red-backs look evil with their glossy black bodies and red or orange stripe down the back.

Whereas a Huntsman just looks like a big oaf, a bit simple. Apparently you can leave a saucer of milk out for them and they will climb down and drink it. I've not tried that one out yet!!! LOL.

:lol: I know they're big and hairy - but that's the kind of thing you do for a cat - not a spider! :eek: I guess you could put a huge bowl of milk out though with the hope that they fall in and cant get out again! :)

No, personally I know of no-one that has been bitten, and I've been living here for 43 years. LOL.

The children are taught at school about what sort of things are dangerous to touch. Well they used to be! My girls are 15 and 18.. so it's been a while since they were in Primary school.

But I can remember them being taught about the Blue-ringed Octopus and if they ever saw one not to touch it, because it can kill. They are found in rock pools on the beach, usually hiding under rocks.

We used to get a few Huntsman spiders here until the next door neighbour cut down all his fruit trees, now they are few and far between. Which is just fine by me! :lol:

Blue-ringed octopus - right - i'll have to remember that one if we're ever tempted to investigate any rock pools with the kids! :eek:
It is reassuring to know that in 43 years you dont know of anyone that's been bitten by a redback though :thumbup:
As for the fruit trees.....mmmmm...i know Andy wanted them (he's into gardening anyway) - maybe i should just get him a bit of land away from wherever we're living! :lol:
