I'm so happy for you.....it all sounds amazing:eek:

Hope the kids settle in to school as quickly as possible, both for them and you !! I would be really stressed out with all the new 'Starts' but it sounds as if you will love your new life in Tas and with any luck we'll be there in a year or two:thumbsup:
We are pulling out all the stops with this house to get it ready for selling (Again!!:curse:) as Jerad does all the work we might as well make it as saleable as possible.......without it costing very much.

Hi Zoe

Sorry for the lack of contact, you realise how dependent you are on the internet when you don't have it! Its lovely to be back online again, although we did find a really nice internet cafe in Hobart which does great food too:)

Hope you, baby and family are all well, good luck with your house, I do hope you get it sorted soon and you can also get to Tas:wub:

Its all very new still but as said before so far so good, I've had the odd wobble particularly missing my dog and horse (probably more than family as I didn't see them everyday!) but its really wonderful here and the people are great.

Take care

Sam

Sorry to say Kerry, but you have been misinformed about our snakes. :-)

We actually have 3 different snakes in Tasmania and ALL are venomous, the Tiger Snake and Copperhead especially so.

The 3 different ones are the Tiger Snake, the Copperhead and the White-lip Snake (Whip Snake). :)

Have just read your update Carina and it sounds as if all going really well for you. Looking forward to hearing more!

I keep trying to read back through this thread to find out who everyone is but it is so long - i sit down with a glass of wine and start at page 1, by the time i'm nearly half way through the bottles nearly empty and i can't remember what i've already read and have to start again the next day....At this rate it will take years!!

House has now been for sale for two whole days and no viewers yet! Not that i'm impatient or anything. Papers here are full of doom and gloom everyday about the housing market so i guess i need to calm down a bit. What is the market like in Tassie? Are prices changing there? Keep looking at all the lovely things on Realestate.com and dreaming!

Anna

Hi Anna we live in the North East a place called Bridport, its a quiet seaside town about an hours drive from Launceston. Tradies are very sort after up here as you can imagine, we couldnt find a plumber for love nor money when we bought the house and have been waiting for an electrician for about 6 weeks now! still we chose to live in the sticks so thats how it is

can't speak for rest of the island but house prices dont seem to be coming down here, we get a lot of people from the mainland buying second properties etc so think that keeps them up a bit, some of the less desirable properties have been on a long time though and should be dropped in price but they seem to think they will get the money because of the area but there just are not worth it.

we came on a sponsered visa STNI we are perm residents have to live here 2 yrs then can go where we want. Col got work virtually straight away here in Bridport, he is a carpenter and is building boats.

Kay :)

I saw the Tiger and Copper head snake at a show in Tassie. Mean looking snakes. Never saw any while i was there in the wild so to speak. Plenty big ants and flies mind you and i saw wales and dolphins. Oh and an Akidna walking along the motorway without a care in the world. Tas, lovely place. Still nothing happening with our house.

Hi

Yep, it really beautiful here, we can't really believe we are here now. I walked home with the children from school the other day, and pausing for breath on the rather steep hill (!) we looked back over the sea glistening in the sunshine and hearing the birds with their amazing songs, and I couldn't believe we have been so lucky to come here:)

Hi Anna

I have the same problem keeping up with this thread, I dont get chance to read through very often or post, so its hard to keep a track on everyones news!

I'm glad you read my update, we are enjoying the lifestyle here, as mentioned before it is a very quite pace of life, especially where I am in Devonport, but if you love the great outdoors theres so much to do. We drove inland to Sheffield at the weekend and that was just a great place, it has murals everywhere, and some great little shops, the views on the way were beautiful and the roads so quite, I just took it all in and thought " I love this place!"

I wish you lots of luck in selling your house
We have been looking at houses, and talking to real estate agents here, and the general opinion is that there is going to be a very gradual slow down of the housing market, but Aussie economy is very strong, and interest rates are high, some people reckon the rates will not go down for quite some time. We are hoping that the exchange rate improves very soon, as we still have our money in the UK and aren't going to be changing it until the rate improves. So I cant buy my dream home yet ! :(

We got our webcam set up yesterday and it was brilliant to talk & see people back home, its a great idea, my 4 year old daughter was totally confused by it all, and just sat there frowning, but i'm sure she'll get the hang of it soon !

Bye for now
Carina:thumbsup:

Hi Carina

Good to hear you are settling in well, it sounds lovely up in Devonport, we have not been to that part of the island at all, so look forward to discovering more over the next few months.

We have the same problem with regards to the exchange rate, its pants isn't it?! But we were advised to move the money within 6 months otherwise we'll get clobbered by the tax man, the interest rates for savings are also much better here than in the UK, so we're moving small amounts over gradually. Its really difficult knowing what to do.

On the plus side, there seems to be a glut of houses for sale, so we are hoping that will go in our favour when we come to buy. Did you find a rental house easily, we looked at several but they were pretty grim so when we viewed this one, we grabbed it straight away.

It really is beautiful here, isn't it. :D
