Dear friends
anyone been to tasmania? how is the place and how do you find the tourism/hospitality jobs. i am a swiss trained (chef) specialised in european culinary arts and looking forward to start take away food business in 1 year time. i am not sure wheather i should choose between adelaide, melbourne or tasmania for permanent migration. the cost of houses are reasonable in tasmania and how about other stuff?

I grew up in Tassie and return every now and then, I think it's a great place although in many areas jobs are a bit scarce.
I think it's the cheapest place to live in Aus, certainly cheaper than any other state capital, mainly due to the cheaper real estate.
Due to the small population, and small numbers of tourists, starting businesses can be difficult there, also tourism is very seasonal, drops very low outside of mainland holiday periods.
But on the other hand, when I was back there in December the tourism industry was booming, I think the effect of bali bombing etc. people were having their holidays closer to home.
Definitely the tourism industry is on the up, but it's hard to say whether this will last, I can't really tell you.
There is lots of info on Tassia online, and I would think you could make some enquiries about starting a business there before travelling there, try these links on tassie tourism and stuff:
