Default Taking our van to Melbourne

Hi, can anyone tell me what's involved in taking our van, it's a Renault traffic, long wheel base and it's 18 months old.

Hi Tina, there's some info in this thread, there's also been a lot of threads about shipping cars and I presume a personally owned van would come under the same rules. -

Yes, although I haven't checked about this specific model.

Yes, but you don't see many. I believe that spares are extortionate.

About the only one I ever see is the Megane convertible.

Just checked the website of a Renault dealer in Brisbane and he has 7 Trafics in stock prices around $39,000-$40,000. Also have 3 demonstrators from $33,000. I imagine Melbourne will be similar.

So do you think it's not worth bringing it over ? It's just that it's only 18 months old and they are very expensiVe to buy in oz.

Isn't shipping about £2000 then there's duty and taxes on top. Could get very costly.

Personally I wouldn't bring a Renault.

BMW, JAG, Toyota, Honda, Mazda or something 'special' maybe... but not something French.

Check out this thread - someone spent GBP10,000 bringing over a BMW. I can't believe that there is $15,000 difference between what you can sell it for over there and what you can buy a new one for over here.

I honestly wouldn't bother bringing a French vehicle, parts are very expensive as they aren't common and they dont have the best reliability reputation. There are plenty of vehicles worth taking but I wouldn't include yours unfortunately.

BMW Australia are possibly the worst price gougers out there, absolutely no excuse. The sheep-like public in Australia contribute to it too by holding the BMW brand in such awe.

NZ allows grey imports. A NZ company will import a new BMW M5 from the UK for approx AUD$140,000. (obviously for use in NZ only) All costs included.

However BMW Australia sells them for close to AUD$250,000 over here.
