Taking my Dog to OZ...
 

Hi All,

Complete newbie here so forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place but I can't really seem to get definitive answers from DAFF's website on how long my dog will need to be quarantined for. Presuming she gets all the blood tests / boosters / rabies etc within the guidelines, how long will she be locked up for upon arrival into Aus?

p.s: she's a Lab cross so not a banned dog or anything.

If she has the right jabs and tests, it will still be 30 days.

If she's coming from the UK, minimum 30 days in quarantine. With the new rules though, she'll need to be rabies vaccinated, then have the Rabies antibodies test clear at least 6 months before she'll be let out of quarantine (e.g., 5 months before she's shipped). If you leave the testing too late, or have to do a re-test as it's too low, she'll have to stay in quarantine longer (and cost more $$$ as a result) This page here will give all the details of what's required. You can also check with these people in the UK, who can tell you if your vet is licensed to certify your dog's vaccines, etc. Not all are, so it's worth a quick phone call to check.

Apparently this is one of the areas where it's good to have an experienced agent on the case - they organise all the paperwork, shipping, etc.

we are using Golden Arrow in Shropshire as our agent and they quoted me the following for my English Springer Spaniel

There is also the Rabbis Jab blood tests and associate vaccines done by local vet.

They are they helpful, i got their detail from a thread last month. Hope this info is some help.

That's excellent, thanks very much -- was worried she'd be locked up for 6-months as some jealous person has said she would be. The whole move was based, fundamentally, on if she could go or not!

Its good to see someone prepared to put their dog first for a change rather than some people that just leave their pets behind when their lives change. Good luck.
