Cool taking a laptop....

Apart from getting used to reading it upside down you mean...?

Seriously though - no, if your're staying change the international settings, change the plug on the mains adapter and get either an adapter or a new lead for the modem.

Other than that - no worries.

Mash, Don't do it.

I'm giving up the firms laptop and I'm giving away the old steam powered unit at home. I was going to get another to take with me but there are much better deals out there.

Last week I logged onto Yahoo Australia and a pop-up ad caught my eye. IBM are selling Think Pad laptops for $2,100 Thats £800 or thereabouts (please no spot-picking about the ex rate everyone !!!!!!!)

In the UK, the same thing would be £1800.

Also, if you buy over there, you can put it in your accounts. Buy it here, and you can't.

All set to meet up Friday 30th. Will phone re the venue as promised.

Regards

K

I did it in 1999 and apart from the changing the plugs (and the international settings) no there's nothing to do. Another suggestion (for Hi-Fi too ) is to buy a few multi-plug boards - then when you get to Australia you just need to change the plug that goes into the wall. I wish I'd done this - would have saved a lot of plug changing when I got here. And bring tons of fuses too.

I've seen some people complaining of problems when shipping CRT monitors out from UK/Us to Aus because the earth's magnetic flux is different in the southern hemisphere (than the northern) but I can't confirm that. LCD screens don't suffer from this.

I heard this before I came but brought my monitor anyway and had no problems. I've still got it but it's now my spare, and it did stout work for 5 years in NZ.
