Hi Peep's, can anyone give us some advice / cost idea's on taking the dogs with us to aus.

Will depend on the size of the dogs! We are taking one (very big!) labrador to Perth and have been quoted £2500.00 minus quarantine fees in Australia / vets bills etc......
I think it will be close to £3000.00 by the time its done and dusted.....

Having family that brought their dogs over its not cheap and can be quite stressful on the dog/s. The quarantine facility is nice and they do the best they can to accommodate your requests. My sisters dog traveled alone so it was a long 30 days for him in there (not sure if it's still that long?), but she/we traveled to 40 min each way trip every week day (they are not open weekend for visiting) and spent time in the outdoor run but they can not mix with other digs socially. My parents had 2 smaller dogs so they traveled on the plane separately but were kenneled together so was better for them. I know our pets are part of the family but be considerate of the ages and check they are capable of doing the long journey.

they are 6 & 4, they can travel in the same crate / box. & they are part of the family, so as long as there is no medical reason they coming for a new life too:thumbsup:

I have forgotton what ours was in £, but it was about $500 with all fees, and an internal flight from Melbourne to Adelaide. Ours is under kg so pretty small.
She is also our baby and we have found it suprisingly un dog friendly here.
We are struggling for things to do travelling between Melbourne and Adelaide because dogs can not go so many places.
She loves it here though. :thumbsup: And loves sunbathing!!

Our relatives have 2 dogs & 2 cats over in perth, there's loads of dogs where they stay & dog walks all over the place.

Yep there's loads of dogs here and also yep it's not that dog friendly :0(

Lots of dogs don't even get walked daily and finding a decent sized off leash area can be hard......ticks, fleas, heartworm *sigh* but still wouldn't be without a canine companion :wub:

Four years ago it cost us £3,000 to get our Border Collie cross out here....it was a long process with lots of hoops to jump, but so glad he came. He's an old man of 15 now who loves to sunbake too :0)

we have just had a quote with petair for our two lab's of just under 4K for the silver service and nearly 5K for gold.

there is a list of things but the only two/three things you will have to do is

1,get your blood tests from your vets within a month before you fly.
2,Complete an import permit from the AQIS website.
3,fill out a health certificate from DEFRA.

the other things are just fancy add-ons but you might want them to do it anyway. have look on there website

You will find that they are not allowed to travel in the same crate. This is in case one of the dogs is taken ill.

Sorry no advice on taking the dogs with you.We were going to take ours but it took 18 years to get out here that sadly they were not with us anymore.

In Perth there are a lot of places where you can and can't take dogs.A lot of places they have to be kept on the lead.But the dogs beaches are great for a good run around.Where we go dogs should be on a lead but as there is only really birds and wild flowers most people let their dogs off.Sometimes it is spot the Aussie as I have met so many English people.I have found people and dogs very friendly on our walks.Most of our neighbours have dogs and take them out but some poor dogs don't see outside the yard.

I HATE having to keep my dog on the lead on the beach, she loves to chase balls, and can't do that for 6 months of the year here unless it is before 10am (when I am going to work) or after 8pm (when it is getting or gone dark).

I bought mine along on a school trip last week out into the state forrest (where dogs are allowed). I had her off the lead and she was very good when a couple of kangaroos hopped past 6ft away. LOL.

I was talking to one of our neighbours a while ago who was telling me all about their 8 years old dog, and I really had to hold my tounge when they told me it had NEVER been out for a walk!!
I have other neighbours who I know have dogs as I hear them, but I have never seen them walked.
Hubbies cousin here has a dog, it lives outside all year round, barely gets a look in over winter and doesn't get walked. Why??? I just don't get it.

We went to the Adelaide show yesturday, not sure if all of OZ has the show bag obsession they have here, but we came away with two, both for our dog (none for us lol).

All the shippiong companies say as they are only small dogs, they will travel together!!!

Best thing to do is have a chat to a few pet exporters and take their advice, they will tell you when everything has to be done, book your quarantine places, flights etc.

Cost is inmaterial to us with regards to the dogs as they are very much part of the family, 4 small/medium dogs we have been quoted £4900 - quarantine is extra but that's not too much. Using Overhill personally but many other companies around to use such as Ryslip etc, you can search on this forum for loads of info and it's good to hear others rrecommendations- would personally suggest ringing around and going with who 'you' feel happiest with.
