I think the $10,000 is taking cash out of the country, the UK did have a limit on how much cash you could take out but don"t know if they still do.For the oz take out you just fill in a form and tell them,if it has been drawn from a bank then no problem,if it appears out of nowhere then everybody takes an interest on where it came from. Taking T/C,s out is no problem no matter how large as they have a record of it.

As if anyone would be game to carry large amounts of cash on the person anyway.

$10k is correct. You can bring in more but must declare it.

I know because I saw an episode of Border Control where they found thousands of dollars of undeclared cash on a chinese student - and did she get a ticking off!

Why would anyone want to carry more than $10k in cash anyway?

My question exactly.

Open a Nationwide account before you leave and use your ATM card when you get to Oz.

I saw that one and had a good laugh, also a tad bit green as to her having so much spending money!

Flexaccount is the current account. If you've got a sizeable amount - also open an e-savings account and move into the current account as needed (it's instant).
