Taken the Plunge Perth - Jan 2004

We have been reading posts on this site for the past year.
Getting lots of good info.
Be gentle it's our first post.

We have finally acheived our PR and have decided to give Perth
a go. Never been to Aus never mind Perth.
We have three small children 4/3/1.

We dont have work lined up yet but are hoping somthing will come along. For my sins I am in IT ( anyone have a job going).

Have booked a couple of weeks with nige at POMSINPERTH and after that hope to rent in an area we could see ourselfs living.

How does the North of Perth ( ie joondalup / kinsley) compare with south of Perth ( ie. Rockingham / Post kennedy).

Any lonely Expats in Perth Drop a line I am sure we will feel the same way.

Any info on do's and donts regarding Perth please send.

Hi guys,
well you are doing the right thing. we arrived nearly two years ago and live in mandurah and love every minute of life.
We have a house that we rent out fully furnished in port kennedy and it may be wise for you to take a good look at that area as it is very up and coming and many prefere it to up north but we may be bias.
If you would like any info on our rental house or any other info on the area please feel free to email me

Hi there Peter and Sue,

My husband and I live in Perth, in Ellenbrook which is about 22k from the city. It is boiling when it gets over about 34c as we don't get the Freemantle Doctor (the Wind!) so if you like the sea breezes then the north coastal suburbs are your best bet.

Personally I would rather live in Joondalup and Kingsley than Rockingham, nice beach till you look right and see the oil refinery! What an ugly eye saw! Port Kennedy seems ok but I didn't see much. You have to remember though thats it's about 45 min to Perth from there.

Your choices are nice northern suburbs. There are a few of us on here in different parts of Perth so I'am sure they will be able to give you their views on the areas they live in.

If I had to do it all again I would choose a coastal suburb not inland as we have done.

Good luck with all your plans

:D

Jane thanks for the info.
As we are renting for two weeks near kingsley that seems in the right direction from what you say.

Does anybody have a up to date idea of prices for property near Joondalup / Kingsley / Duncraig for an average 4 bed house.

Would somebody have to travel into Perth from those suburbs to find work ?
What is the traveling time into Perth if you have to ?

Any other Perth Info is really good.

Thanks

Peter and Sue, try www.domain.com.au that gives a pretty good idea of prices.

We have some friends out near Currumbine wnich is a northern suburb and they love it up there. She is a teacher and he is a policeman so they wouldn't live anywhere dodgy!! :)

Good luck to you both
