Take stock, because most return home.

Sorry, I certainly don't agree.
The term "Paki" is definitely racist and offensive. I should hope that all members would refrain from using it on this forum.

What about a Brit returning from Australia and saying paki - that might be excusable. Habit. I don't think the term as used in Australia is offensive. It is only offensive, if you grew up with it when it was offensive.
I haven't heard it for 20 years. The last time I heard it was my own lips and I got a smack from the old dear. I actually wonder if it has been so long since I heard it that maybe anyone using it is too new to know it used to be offensive...(!)

A positive trend is that a great many people in Au (including quite a few newly arrived poms) are becoming responsible cat owners & have 'indoor cats' who only go out into a cat run. This benefits the cat, the wildlife & the owner, as the cats don't get run over, the wildlife is safe, and the owner gets the benefit of their pet's company .

i don't agree. "paki" may be used by the pakistan community, but when used to describe them then it's derogatory in my opinion.

You can disagree all you like and you'd still be wrong. In Aus Paki means a citizen of Pakistan. (<-- Note the full stop.)

If the word is derogatory, it's derogatory regardless of who's using it. It doesn't become any less derogatory for being used by members of the ethnic community to which it is intended to refer.
If you ever get to Australia, you will find Italians and Greeks happily referring to each other as "wogs." You will also find their no-Italian and no-Greek friends referring to them in the same way.
I consider this a far more honest approach.

Then I'm "intitled" to my opinion that you are ignorant of Aus English.
