Question take the car?

Hi. We are about to submit our application, and hope to go to Perth. I am a nurse, on the occupation in demand list, so am hoping we will get a pretty quick acceptance!!! (we wish!!)
Anyway, we are thinking about taking our car. Does anyone have any views or experience on this. We have a Vauxhall Vectra, R reg. I understand that cars are quite pricey in Australia, but I also have know if we take ours we will have to pay import tax. Does anyone know how much? Along with the price of shipping, will it be a better option to sell it before we go and buyone when we get there?

I've been looking into this and the conclusion I came to is that unless your car is really special then don't bother. You have to get an import permit, pay for shipping, you can fill the car with your stuff though.

When you get there the car will have to go in to the pits to get a compliance plate and you'll have to pay for work to make it compliant. Bear in mind the dash will be in MPh not Kph, this in itself will put off most Aussie buyers when you come to sell it.

I'd flog the car, turn the pounds into Aussie Pesos and you'll find you will be able to get something decent over there.
