Sydneysiders - your help is wanted !
Hi everyone. Ive just moved to Sydney, have rented a fab appartment in the CBD but have absolutely no furniture ! so a few questions:
1. Does anyone have any furniture / kitchen utensils / TVs they want to sell and are resonably close to the CBD or can deliver?
2. Does anyone know of any cheap but good furniture places - something like SuperAMart in Wueensland which has 99% rubbish but the odd gem if you know what youre looking for
3. Any furniture / appliance rental companies in the area
Thanks so much
Dave

Mike Stanton is on his way back home so he might have some stuff for sale. There is an IKEA at Moore Park and a Fantastic Furntiture at the start of the Parramatta road.
Otherwise have a look on www.graysonline.com.au if you fancy auction bidding for stuff.

Just get the cab to SupaCentre at Moore Park.
There's a Fantastic Furniture there, which will stock more tat than you can shake a stick at.
I'd also advise getting the Herald and looking at the auction ads. Specifically on Saturdays. They have massive auctions at which things are flogged of dirt cheap. Went to one flogging off bankrupt stock of Balinese furniture the other week. The stuff was dirt cheap and good quality.

Whatever you do, don't go to Ikea for furniture.
We ordered a wardrobe from them, and asked for delivery.
Arranged for a Saturday morning 8-12, didn't arrive till 7PM
When I went to put it together found that nearly all the panels were severly warped ) and (
Yes I know it's Ikea, but didn't know any better.
Suggestions for half decent wardrobe / chest of drawers?? Please.

There are usually quite a few ads in windows etc in Kings X/Potts point area with 2nd hand furniture. Mostly backpackers moving on, but you can get some decent stuff. I picked up a near new sofa bed last night.
As for deliveries from Ikea, my bro does deliveries and will assemble...

we get all our big wood numbers from a bloke called Chris who has a furniture shop (timber) on Maroubra Road at Maroubra J. His stuff is as good as anything we've seen elsewhere and he's a pretty straight forward guy.
I suspect you'd do as well to avoid the Ikea's of the world and go to a smaller one man operation like this in your area. We actually found there was more choice to be had there. e.g we buy a tv unit thing and get a choice of 6 differring wood finishes. You don't get that in Ikea.
