NSW Premier Bob Carr today welcomed the release of a report showing the city's beaches had enjoyed the cleanest November-December period since 1985.
Mr Carr also noted that sewage pollution at Sydney's beaches had been cut by 99 per cent since the 1990s.
The report by pollution monitors Beachwatch found that all 35 Sydney ocean beaches passed the National Health and Medical Research Council water quality guidelines for faecal coliform bacteria.
And only two beaches - Warriewood, in Sydney's north and South Cronulla, in the city's south - fell short of testing guidelines for enterococci.
