Default Sydney vs London Comparision

I was bored this morning so I wrote a comparison between Sydney and London. This does also cover British vs Aussie things.
It's probably has been done 1000 times before but I think I've made a few slightly strange observations on my train of thought.
Please add more if you've feel I've left anything out...

Sydney Pro
You usually earn more for comparable job
Cheap Fish, Fuel, Taxi’s & Grapes
Less Tipping culture
Birthday Cake at work Tradition
More outdoorsy things to do
BBQ all the time
Watch any ELP match if scheduled at same time
Thinner water; better drinking and laundry washing
The laundry room in most accommodations
Washing takes 30mins to dry on washing line
Winter can be better than British Summer
Never felt intimidated walking the streets late
Great tasting and sizes of Aussie grown fuel and Veg
Bring your own wine to most restaurants
Checkout staff bags your shopping
You leave your junk out for other people to collect
You’re on the cradle of Asia
More healthier foods available
Amazing Wild life (Wombat, Parrots, Lizards etc)
Bird noises make me laugh (crow sounds like a cat)
Strong AUD for travelling
Purchased coffee in general is a better standard
Little more patriotic (more Aussie flags outside houses)
Beaches and river ways at close proximity
Electrical sockets always found in bathrooms
Less Stairs (everything is built on one level)
Beers at work on Friday custom
Less crowded travel (compared to tube)
Boats ownership is more of the norm
Bigger coke cans
You can buy things in larger volumes (1kg yogurt)
Places and touristy things are less crowded

London Pro
Most things are 10-30% cheaper
British Comedy (in people and TV)
Cheaper Electronics
Better + More Choice Pubs & Bars
Watch ELP when it happens
Forecast rain usually means a light drizzle (rather than extreme heavy rain)
Famous Stars are internationally known
People have more pronounced accents (East Londoner to West Londoner)
Major/minor concerts will happen here
Far more shopping bargains
Amazon exists (P&P is free)
You’re on the launch pad for Europe & more
Non crashing super fast cheap internet
Places have more of unique character/look to them
No seedy slot machines rooms in pubs
Less dangerous scary creepy crawlies
Less TV adverts in General
Politics is more interesting
British media more of a powerhouse
British electrical plugs are better (Internal fuse, less flimsy and wire in one direction to enable them to sit side by side in extension sockets)
Standard and Subscription TV is better
The four season when they should happen
Pavements are outside every house
No central heating/insulation (it’s bad for 6 weeks)
Hardly any need to put on sunscreen
More historic things to be seen and found
Less things outside (signs) get faded by sun
Sun is weaker; burning happens 10x slower
Better description or potatoes (crisps, chips, French fries)
Crisps are of better quality

I think I should of said softer!

Anyhow, Thames water is hard. Drinking it you find it's a thicker consistency. I found a little info on it -

Tap water is safe to drink, and in the UK has to adhere to strict guidelines.
Even when water softening systems are installed, there has to remain one mains tap to supply drinking water. This is especially important for babies, and any water given in the first year should be from the mains supply, boiled and then cooled before use.

London tap water, for example, contains on average 108 mg of calcium per litre, which is around 12% of the RDA for this mineral, but negligible amounts of magnesium. It is also low-sodium.

The majority of the UK has relatively hard water. Only those areas, like the Lake District, where the water runs over granite and can’t pick up any mineral residues, is it naturally very soft. Hard water areas, like London which has a water table of clay, leaches minerals into the water, thus hardening it.

Sydney Opera house vs Royal Opera House is a draw in my book.

SOH obviously is a symbol of Australia whereby ROH is far more modest.

Externally SOH is Expressionist vs ROH Neo-classical Architecture (Arguments for and against)

Internally I think ROH wins hands down; if you've ever been inside the glass house side of the building I think you'll find it pretty amazing. Also SOH is know for poor acoustics.

But what do I know, I'd rather wash my car than watch Opera.

No contest - Sydney wins (bigger and better looking)......even if you mean't Tower Bridge. There's actually only about 40years difference on opening date. Tower bridge was made to look Gothic.

Sydney Harbour v River Thames?
On looks- Sydney, it's blue!
History - No Question
Walk beside - difficult one but I think Thames is hard to beat on the south bank during summer
Other things - You can fish in Sydney's! London has a good few interesting canals & estuaries running from it.

Bondi Beach v (insert comparable London item)?
In Sydney you can got to work and go to the beach after. This is where London is beaten hands down.

Shark Attack v Rioting Chav Attack?
Sharks are amazing creatures which are such of an effective apex predator they haven't changed their evolutionary design for nearly 1/2 a billion years.
Rioting Chav's are far more of a hated and dangerous species. London Wins.

Sydney Harbour fireworks v London Eye fireworks?
I've only been to London eye and I was squashed and couldn't get a view.
I think Sydney Wins. I looks better on the TV at least and it's the first one you see!

Opal (2013) v Oyster?
For now Oyster.

CityRail v Tube?
In volumes of people - Tube
History - Tube
Design - CityRails double carriage
Iconic - Tube
Strikes - Less with CityRail

Probably Tube

That was mean't to be for a London Pro.

Here are some more -

Sydney Pro

Less bills - Council tax water bill included in Rent + No TV licence
Kangroo meat (high potein, low fat and cheap)
Shorts and T-Shirts are standard issue
Less angry drivers on the roads
Lot more Asian ingredients readily available + lot & cheaper Asian restaurants
Call centres generally go through to people rather than automation
Slightly more classless society – posh to poor
More mullets!
Bit more Family friendly
More active Sporting community
Little less over the top security conscious (easier entering a building, opening bank account online etc)
More of an obsession in keeping beer cool

London Pro

Oyster card is so more convenient
NHS is free (maybe directly but not indirectly)
Sausages are usually better quality
You can select the type of battered fish you want in a chippy
You can buy the real - Marmite
Quality curries that are properly hot (generally hotter foods – e.g. Doritos Hot Salsa in Aussie you could feed to a baby)
Really interesting hidden secret side streets or places, buildings or rooms you find every once in a while
Cars are generally more up to date
No cash withdrawal bank charges for using opposing bank
When the weather is crap there are still plenty of things to do

I thought that was a 'Sydney' thing too, and maybe not a London thing.

Here in Melbourne you can select not only what fish but if you want it fried, battered and it's done in front of you.

Good list

On the price of fish: takeaway fish and chips bought from a chippie will be quite a bit cheaper in Sydney, whereas to sit down in a restaurant/pub the London price will be slightly more than half that of Sydney

Go figure

The London f&c will be a much longer, thicker portion. In the chippie often pre-cooked and sitting under a heat lamp. May contain bones
