Sydney / NSW local knowledge needed please

Hi
Hoping to move to Sydney area shortly and need a few suburb names to help me find where we want to be.

Husband will be working with NSW Ambulance service, we'd like to be in driving distance (45 mins max) of beach and pref close to somewhere I could ride and possible have a horse at livery, Husband would like rugby club with doesn't have to be expat to play with. Nice community to become part of we're not big clubbers but prefer family days out and friends around for a drink or 2 in the evening.

Should also mention we are from the country in UK and love the rural lifestyle however feel we'll need more people around us in Oz to help us settle and become part of the community.

Thank you

Nikki

From what I understand we have a little time to specify where we'd like to be based (choice of 3 think) so this will all come into consideration. Inner city is not my bag where abouts are you and I'll have a google?
Thank you for your reply

Hi Nikki, I'm going out to Sydney in 4 weeks for my interview with NSW Ambulance. Has your husband been out for his interview yet?

No not yet- we hoping to go in Oct/Nov I'm getting a bit ahead of myself really. We got through to QAS last year but due to family stuff the timing wasn't right and some of the people out don't seem to be liking it as much as we were hoping, so I thought we'd try NSWAS so am just starting the research. We have 2 preschool children so can't float about as we'd be able to as a couple to find the right area.

Congrats on the interview and keep in touch to let me know how you get on!

Campbelltown. I'm nurse in local hospital. The area is SYdney South West. Liverpool is trama center , then Campbelltown and Camden. It is just as you describe. We are 35-40mins by train to opera house, 25-30mins to local beaches at Thirroul, Bulli, Coledale, Austinmer and about 50mins to Katoomba, blue mountains. It is a well developed area with several large shopping malls but rural at the same time. Look for macarthur area. I think you are Camden type of people. Will post you more links when I have time. All the best,
Tass.

Hi again !
There are loads of expats in this area BUT we tend to all get on with our own lives and meet up for coffee, BBQ's etc just to touch base. This is a very family orientated area and with 2 young kids you will have absolutely no bother fitting into the community down here. Your hubby will be greatly appreciated on any team, as it's all to do with sport. Am going to school now to help on fathers day stall, yes, it's that time of year here and the parents run a stall so all the kids can by a little gift for their dad and help raise school funds ! I will find you lots of "links" whilst I'm out today and will e-mail them back to you.You are very lucky to have chance for reccie trip, we did it all within 3 weeks of recieving visas and had never been to Oz before !!!
PM me if you want to ask ANYTHING !!
All the best,
Tass.

P.S. Oh and that's an advantage too of living this way, property is still affordable and yes , you can get some great pools !!! we know, we are already "living the dream ! " : )

Re: Sydney / NSW local knowledge needed please

hi, i recently completed rpl at rozelle (asnsw) the three stations they like to send you to are parramatta, sac, bankstown. traffic is a nightmare in sydney. public transport is pretty good (locals will disagree but they havnt used uk public transport) property rentals are around $450 to $550 for anything decent. (rent) up to $1,000,000 for decent house purchase. generally speaking the further west you go the cheaper it gets. ask yourself why! driving standards.... well what can i say. malta!!! if you have been there you will know. trying not to sound like a whinging pom but just telling as i see. colleagues have been 99% freindly so far. bring as much stuff as you can ship as things are expensive here. we spent around $20,000 so far just getting set up. $12000 on car but they are expensive second hand and mostly high kms. good luck with your moves.

Do you do a regular meeting? We moved to Prestons a couple of months ago & are a bit "billy no mates" We have family in the area, but that doesn't count eh...
