That is a cool site. I'd take the missus but I suspect we're *way* too late to get a hotel room

Not so Hutch look here.

Plenty available. Some are totally ridiculous prices, but quite a few reasonably priced considering its NYE.

You'll need to bare in mind that if you want to watch from the key vantage points you'll have to get there VERY early to get in as they cordon off each area once they are full.
If you feel like splashing out a bit you can book to get on a boat to watch it from the water. You can choose from very expensive cruise boats, or, what we are considering, is the water taxis for $100pp.

Re: Sydney New Years Eve.. All the info you need
i did NYE in sydney last year when i was over on holiday.
stayed at hotel bondi (www.hotelbondi.com.au) right on the beach. it was, according to everyone else, quite expensive (sorry can't remember exact figure) altho coming from edinburgh (city of overpriced NYE's) i personally didn't notice it. had a 1st floor room with a beach view - it was gorgeous!and once we closed the balcony doors (at about 05:30) we didn't even hear the party going on outside!
for the actualy fireworks we booked ourselves on a harbour cruise with MV Bayrunner (http://www.bayrunner.com.au). cost us just under $300 (cos we booked a few months early!) and included LOADS of food and free bar (spirits extra). the boat wasn't overcrowded and was full of ex pats from various bits of the UK, as well as more than a few aussies/kiwis etc. we partied till about 1am when the boat docked and then headed back to bondi.... have no idea how i got back... think it involved a train and possibly a taxi altho i'm not quite sure!! bondi was jumping by the time we got back there and remember meeting more than a few scottish backpackers and doing an 8some reel... after that everything seems to fade into the distance!!! hehehehe
had a wonderful night and would do it all again someday....
tho this year i'll be partying hard Edinburgh Street Party watching KT Tunstall and Texas ..... come to think about it the tickets for that were more expensive that my sydney cruise..... hmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!

We've done it the last 2 years. The first years spot was the best down on Blues point rd, stunning backdrop and lots of room. Its a bit scary when it finishes and everyone heads en mass to the trains though :scared:
Can't be that bad though as we're off again this year
