Sydney Hotel Recommendations?
We're taking the kids and my parents to Sydney for a holiday while they are here in January. We want to stay in a half decent hotel fairly central to the city.
We need 2 rooms and one needs to be able to take 4 of us which rules a lot of them out as many don't seem to do family rooms. Has anyone got any recommendations which might help us.
I know it's peak tourist times so we might need to pay a bit more.
At the moment, the best we can find online is the Raddisson at $300 a night per room.

The Goldsborough Apartments at Darling Harbour are nice and they do 2 and 3 bedrooms. They have kitchens so it's useful for kids snacks etc.
Don't know how much they would be in holiday season though but here's the link http://www.theoaksgroup.com.au/Property.aspx?sid=1

On our first trip to Aus we stayed at the All Seasons, Darling Harbour. That was a nice hotel, although I'm afraid that's about as much as I can tell you! I don't think we would have paid stupid prices though.

Is one apartment option, maybe have a look for others, if you are going to have a car you maybe do not need to be too central and the Hornsby would allow you to travel into the centre by train but be a 30 min trip to the Northern beachers.
Know there are other apartment options- might be worth a look.

we got a great deal last jan through wotif.com.au for a 3 bed appartment in the Maestri world tower on pitt st. -cost 300 for 2 nights in penthouse suite- 2 doubles and twin plus full kichen and living room. fantasic views to harbour bridge darling harbour and even acrooss to SCG- england were playing australia! swimming pool, spa, sauna and parking too .short walk to darling harbour and not far to opera house. if you go the week before australia day there are usually good deals on wotif as most people are back at work after taking 1st 2 weeks of jan off.

Zuji.com.au (whilst having crap customer services) has had some cheap prices recently when ive been looking.
One hotel I have seen that looks good value is the Vulcan Hotel (www.vulcanhotel.com.au) a little bit further out but seems an excellent price for the quality of room etc, and what an extra 10min walk...

Try the Meriton serviced apartments:
http://www.meritonapartments.com.au/
We stayed there on a recent visit to Sydney - they do 2 and 3 bed apartments which are very good. We stayed in the Meriton World Tower and all the rooms are above the 60th floor which means spectacular views.
Also because the apartments have a kitchen you can make your own breakfast (which we did) saving a fortune on eating out too much.
The apartments are 5 minutes walk from Darling Harbour but there is a metro stop just outside.

We go in Jan too at the end when their school hols finish!
They have 'packages' cheaper to book for a week than 5 days ( total cost £358.00 bargain)
Good Luck finding somewhere.............now just the accommodation for Tasmania!

Re: Sydney Hotel Recommendations?
Thanks for the link (not my thread I know ) but I just booked the Hornsby apts which are right next to a big shopping centre and the train station is 5mins away . Its really reasonable for families , we have 4 kids so a fab option rather than 2 hotel rooms which can add up fast!

From here it was an easy walk to Westfield (huge mall with all the shopping you need) and takeouts and restaurants for meals but the apartment had everything that after one week we cooked most evenings for ourselves.
So 2 adults 2 kids and two rooms two bathrooms, my dad came through whilst there and spent a comfortable couple of nights on the sofa bed.
It was not total luxury but it had everything we needed and they did laundry on the beds and towels so we had less to pack for our first six weeks.
Let me know if you need any info on the area and what there is.
One minor comment - our apartment smelt musty, took me a while to realise that was a bit of the Aus smell with rain (it did not stop for the first three weeks every night) and this is an older block. A couple of air freshners and opening it up when dry sorted that. The fact it was very clean and tidy helped me as I am a clean freak over certain things.
Have fun and enjoy and drop me or others on the site if you need more info about the area. Or if I happen to be back in Aus from work travel I can meet one evening for coffee/drink when I shop in Hornsby every week.

Hey no worries - for real detail, the reason I recommend Waldorf is we stayed at them - yes the Hornsby ones, for six weeks till we sorted out a rental. I was working from day three and it was an easy journey to the city. One child started school the following week and hubby and daughter spent six weeks fnding out rentals and touring Sydney burbs.

As my husband says I have a nose like a bloodhound (so i'll fill the place with air freshners!!)
My uncle and his family live on the next street so its Perfect!
Its so much more reassuring when someone has been there and recommends it as there are thousands to choose from its all a bit too much to trawl through them all !!
Thanks again Sandra
