Sydney to Gold Coast..... best time to travel?

Sydney to Gold Coast..... best time to travel?
we are heading up to the Gold Coast tomorrow as planned, getting different veiws on when we should leave! travel at night to get there early morning or leave maybe 5am to get there mid afternoon, baring in mind we havent booked any accomdation and want to do a night or 2 here and there. I think maybe we shouldhave booked the first couple of nights accom now
will we have any problems?
