Default Sydney first or straight to Brisbane - what would you do!!!!

Hi all,

We are a family of 2 adults and two kids and we are just about to send off our main visa application. My questions is we went to Sydney at Xmas to have a good look around as that is where we wanted to settle and we loved it. We then soon realised that we wouldn't be able to afford the lifestyle in Sydney (living close to a beach, hubby not having to work long hours etc..) and have decided to eventually settle in Brisbane, if we like it.

We have never been there before and we are ummmming and aahhhing about whether to go to Sydney first for 12 months and in that time, visit Brisbane to see if we like it or just to bite the bullet and go straight to Brisbane.

We don't want the money we are going over with to dwindle down because Sydney is too expensive, but then is it a big risk to move straight to Brisbane if we have never been there.

HELP!!!

Emma

You have obviously done your sums and know where the type of work is for your husband? Cause sometimes if the employment is the issue the corresponding job income is less in the slightly cheaper city area.

I am in IT and bitch about Sydney being expensive...but it is a lot better for us on the whole because we can get the employment security.

No I do not have more money and or less hours...but then that was not top of my personal list. So as long at you are sure your choice is Brisbane - then go straight away, enjoy the start up and do not look back have a holiday down here when suits, but if you still have feelings that Sydney is where you want, why not think again?

Another daft thing.....we spent a total of 10 hrs in Sydney prior to moving most of it in a pub, and planned long time to move to Melborne, when the job transferred me.....ye ha Sydney! Obviously we thought we had taken 2nd choice....until we found out how much better Sydney is than Melbourne And the same will happen to you if you go to Brisbane - come this far don't bother with minor regrets.

Good Luck

Before you even start looking at prices of houses, ability to live near the sea etc you really should assess yours and your husbands employment ability. Can you and your partner secure reasonably well paid, satisfying employment in Brisbane? If it is yes, then it would be great to live somewhere cheaper, but if the answer is no, and you find yourselves unemployed for a good while or doing work you would never normally accept, then maybe you should opt for Sydney as employment is more plentiful. We are in a similiar situation, would love to live in Brisbane (cheaper and smaller) but the employment opportunities are not nearly as good (IT and Investment Banking) so we are opting for Sydney.

Do some research on Seek.com.au as to the number of jobs available in your professions and wages.
