I'm arriving in Sydney from the UK on Monday the 3rd. Hopefully I can make the next drinks meet :D

Will be looking for a place to live so if anyone in Sydney has any ideas I'd be most appreciative and grateful for any leads/tips

Hope to hear from you! :D

An advanced welcome and look forward to seeing you next thursday!

Other people may disagree with me but in terms of places to live I have spent no more than 20 seconds thinking about it and decided to break it down in the following areas
- if you are a city person: Then you would be looking at something like Pyrmont, Surrey Hills or Paddington. Ie pretty close to the city and all have reasonable pubs, etc
- if you are a beach person: Then you are probably looking at the eastern suburbs (Bondi or Coogee - most beach Brits will go to Coogee as though further away from the city it is quicker to get to due to bus lanes and slightly cheaper) or Manly on the north side of the river (ferry to work is a seller but a pain to get home late at night)
- if you want an OK area but maybe not as expensive then you are looking North Sydney / Chatswood / etc

Cheers

Thanks for that info... Pyrmont seems nice. Is it very expensive for rentals? (a room in an apartment or house)? whats Surrey Hills or Paddington like? any good or pricey? I'm ideally looking for clean, enough space, near transport and has good facilities, free internet, and furniture in the room :P

Is that too much of an ask or are there places that are pertty much move in and you're done?

Finding a place to live is such a personal issue. It wholly depends on the demographic that you feel comfortable living with.
Sydney is a melting pot of cultures, some blending some definitely not.
It is also dependant on your disposable income and your future place of work. People in Sydney and the larger metropolitan areas think nothing of commuting over an hour to work, its not the distance that governs the journey time its the traffic and transport times which can be the same if you live 10k away or 35k away!!
If you want a place on your own then you would need to look at a minimum of $300 a week and in the areas mentioned by Happiya that would not get you a great place, apart from North Sydney/Chatswood.
I am never comfortable with house sharing until you really know the person or can have your own lockable area but thats probably also an age thing!
There is a great social life in Sydney once you get to know people and that may take a while. Where is your job located and 'roughly' what sort of rent could you afford weekly?
