sydney 2000 - Guys it's over
another thing in the media that is most irritating is the constant sniping by the Aus press at the Greek Games.
Rebecca Wilson Saturday - It was on OK opening ceremony, but I thought Sdneys was better, and the Greeks spent much more money than we did, and the Greeks didn;t get as many people in it as we did etc etc.
Woman, the games in Sydney finished 4 years ago. Just accept it and move on.
Now its - "the stadiums aren't full". Well if they don't want to watch sweaty balkans weightlifting, who cares.

I dont often critisize other people, but that woman is a total bitch. I switch off now as soon as she appears. Not only is she obsessed with sniping at the Greeks, she now seems to have it in for Jana Pittman too!!
She obviously doesnt realise how snotty and pathetic she comes across. What a totally vile woman!!

I hate it, if we are such a sporting nation then why cant we act sporting and let someone else have a go for a change. Its bloody embarassing to Australians who have left the country more than once and realise there is a world out there.

She is described as "TV Presenter and Australia's Hottest Sporting
Gossip Columnist"
Most people have a different description.

Yes, but saying that, we were watching BBC Olympic Coverage last night for that swimming final. I think Thorpe was up against quite a good US swimmer. They were interviewing the spectators on who they thought would win, and the Ozzies were very laid back saying, hope he wins, if he does, we'll be having a few beers etc.....then the asked an American and he was like 'YEAH..we are gonna own that pool....we are def gonna win etc etc' Its that egotistical arrogant attitude which does not help them. ( I grew up in the US and love the country but of late the attitude of some does not serve them well in the international community! ) Apparently in the Opening Games they got quite a muted reception??

The American attitude is one which indeed does win few friends in the more global community, and it is that attitude which I do notice creeping in to some of the more jingoistic aussie rantings.
On the Rebecca Wilson front:
She used to be on The Fat on ABC, which was re-incarnated as 110% Tony Squires, and has since been canned due to poor ratings. She also writes a column/page in the Sydney Sunday Telegraph...basically a sports gossip show.
I think she gives women in the sporting media a bad name. She frequently attacks somebody whilst displaying a less than feeble grasp of the facts. she is usually quick to bait foreign teams. Her column is chock full of unsubstantiated facts.
try this from crikey.com.au as a brief intro into her not so nice war with Danny Weidler of the Herald. Apart from portraying her in fairly poor light it'll give non residents an insight into just how much the media and all of sport in this country is run/controlled by 2 men...rupert and kerry.
