Actually Pollyana, I have seen fresh chestnuts here, in the more 'specialty' type of greengrocers (the ones who keep more imported stuff, particularly Asian) Having said that though, I've only seen them a couple of times and I'm afraid I can't remember what time of year it was. You can, however, buy tinned chestnuts, both whole and in paste form. Likewise I've also seen black and white pudding in specialised delicatessens. Iron Bru - not that I've seen, but I'm sure there'd be some sort of equivalent here. There are loads of 'new-fangled' drinks available! I've not seen any equivalent for Dandelion and Burdock though - that was a new one on me when I arrived in UK last year.

Yeah, I guess you might get the chestnuts in specialist shops; not the same as the roasted ones we used to buy at Christmas, too hot to eat!

The Bloke drinks something called Sarsparilla (?sp) which may be similar to Irn Bru or D&B - similar smell anyway, which keeps me away from it!

Hi Guys,
You might like to try coles or bilo for dandelion and burdock - they stock ben shaws (from huddersfield in west yorks - not far from were i was brought up) its in the foreign foods section next to all the saurkraut and italian food stuffs. We saw roasted chestnuts for sale on street corners in melbourne in july.

I haven't even seen Irn Bru in this part of England, let alone Aus!

If I want chestnuts I just go up to the woods around the village. Lots n' lots of Sweet Chestnuts (yum).

Sorry, not much use really......

You can get black pudding in some of the butchers in Bondi and I am pretty sure David Jones food halls in the city and bondi junction do the same.

For Irn Bru buy some Berocca and piss in a bottle. The colour and probably the flavour will be remarkably similiar.

You can get chestnuts in the supermarkets here in Brisbane, not all outlets sell them though , but many do. Woolworth's was the last place I bought some , which was a few months back , I haven't seen any recently probably because they are out of season( in the veg section, they didn't have lots of stock , probably not much call for them here . I can't remember the price, but they were expensive, they were way over $10 a kilo, think they were $18 something like that ( that's expensive!! .. I used to get them for free in the UK, buy, chestnuts in the UK - you go chestmut picking in the fields ) . Anyway, they are the same type of chestnuts that you get in Britain, they taste the same . Just put them in the oven to roast ( put a split in the shell first or they'll explode)

cheers
