Superannuation benefits, pre-tax deduction off your salary that goes into a retirement fund. When salaries are advertised (or negotiated) you need to be aware if you are talking about "package", which means salary+super+whateverelsecrapcompanypaysfor versus "base" salary where super and doo-dah's are added on top.

There's a really good Wikipedia article on Superannuation in Australia. Employers are required by law to pay a proportion of an employee's salaries and wages (currently nine percent) into a superannuation fund.

Hope this helps;

Pay very careful attention to your super because one day you will have to live on the contributions you have made! When you are young, try and pay more than you "have" to - if you just go with the basic required levels then when you hit 55 or 60 or whenever you quit, you wont have really enough to live on. As the aged pension is means tested many people are not eligible for it.
